Data Analytics Competition

NOMS 2016 Big Data Analytic Competition
Organized by IEEE Big Data Initiative

Data Science is all about the processes and methods to access and analyze data to gain insights for informed decision making. To promote the awareness and analytic technology of Big Data, the IEEE Big Data Initiative is organizing a Data Analytics Competition. The competition will be held during the NOMS 2016 and is open to all participants of the conference.

Data

The IEEE’s big data initiative aims to promote discussions on the topic; lead and coordinate related activities. To this end, the IEEE big data web portal has been used to promote this initiative by announcing events, related news and providing references to relevant outlets. The committee has been tracking the web site usage for the last two years. Specifically following usage information has been recorded:

Keywords: Keyword searches that led to the website. Dataset_WeeklySearch.csv
Devices:  Devices used to access to the website.  Dataset_WeekyDevice.csv
Region:  The origin of the website visits. Dataset_WeeklyLocation.csv

Question

Senior Director of the IEEE Big Data Initiative likes to study their web portal usage to understand the audience of the initiative and potentially improve the management and services of the website. What insights can you provide by analyzing the datasets above. Your insights and suggestions are expected to be creative.

Participation

Participation is open to conference attendees only. To participate sign up by February 22nd by sending an email to Chi-Ming Chen (chimingchen at att.com), Kathy Grise (k.l.grise at ieee.org) and Yegin Genc (Yegin.genc at manhattan.edu).

Evaluation and Award

You are expected to present your findings to a judging panel of practitioners. Presentations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Clarity and Relevance of Research
  • Methodology/Analysis
  • Creative use of data
  • Significance of findings
  • Delivery of findings
A judging panel of practitioners will evaluate presentations and the wining team (or individual) will be awarded with $1,000.
